In case you didn’t know, Amazon is adapting Sony’s God of War franchise into a TV show. While the project has long been in development, it seems to finally be building up some steam.
Running the show for the series is Ronald D. Moore, a familiar name for sci-fi and fantasy fans given his work on Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek.
Moore has, for what I think might be the first time, opened up a bit about the God of War adaptation, and even his familiarity with the franchise and gaming in general.
God of War TV Series Showrunner Admits He Isn’t A Gamer
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con to IGN, Moore mentioned that while Kratos is the central protagonist of the series, his son Atreus wil also play a big part in the series. This confirms the Amazon show will focus on the Norse version of God of War, instead of the original series of games.
Funnily enough, Moore also admitted that he doesn’t play games, though he has tried to.
When asked if he has actually played the God of War games, Moore said, “I’ve tried to play it. I continue to try to play it, but I grew up in the arcade era, so I can bang away, just give me a Defender console or an Asteroids console, I’ll kick your ass. But it’s just a different thing. My family can do it. My wife can play video games. My wife plays Skyrim, but I lack the muscle memory of my thumbs. And so Kratos is fighting the troll and I’m constantly like, okay, which one’s the B button? No, I’m dead. It is that kind of thing. But I try.”
I respect that at least he’s man enough to admit something, rather than faking he’s a big fan of the games.

We still don’t know pretty much anything about the project, but it’s good to know that development is progressing smoothly.
While there hasn’t been any casting choices that we know of yet, Moore shared story details about the show, and based on his statement, it seems it’ll follow the story of the 2018 God of War game that saw the franchise get a soft reboot of sorts.
“The tone of the show is trying to emulate the tone of the game, which is there’s this epic journey, this heartfelt story of these two men setting out on this thing to honor the memory of his wife, Atreus’ mother. So it has this emotional heart, but there’s this sense of history of who Kratos is, this mystery about his past, what he represents, the emotions that he’s going through. So there’s a weight to it, but not so much weight that there’s not enjoyment along the way and there’s spectacle and there’s lots of things going on in this world,” shares Moore.
While we’re waiting for more news on the TV series to surface, when it comes to the gaming franchise, Sony has been quiet about it, though there’s one rumor that mentions a new game in the franchise is in development, but it’s not what you think.
