Remember That You’re a Scientist
One of the main things you need to keep in mind with this game is that you should know your role. Your character is primarily a scientist or researcher, not a soldier. As such, you’re not really meant to engage in open combat with every hostile you encounter!
Instead, try to use stealth and traps to avoid confrontation or at least get the first hit in combat. Be smart and play it safe, you will not last long if you charge head-on. Specially early in the game!
Simply put, straightforward confrontations are extremely risky in this game. Keep them to a minimum to survive.
Follow Objectives
If you find yourself having no direction, it’s a good idea to just try following the main quest objectives. These will appear on your Journal (press the J key), as well as in your HUD as blue circles. They can be vague sometimes, but they do help give you an idea of what you need to do to progress.
Learn What Materials to Prioritize
As you might have realized by now, managing your limited inventory is a bit of a pain in this game. With that in mind, you need to learn which types of materials and resources to prioritize when looting.
For example, Staplers and Coils should take priority due to being used on higher-end recipes. They’re fairly rare to find, too, so you want to grab as many of them as you can. Wooden Planks and Plastic Scraps, on the other hand, are fairly plentiful. Don’t feel bad for throwing away some Plastic Scraps to make space for Staplers, for example. Prioritize rarer loot when your inventory is packed.
Keep Items Locked
Have you ever found yourself accidentally dismantling or storing items from your inventory? Well, you can prevent that from happening by simply favoriting them! Right-click on any item you want and select Favorite to lock its slot.
Now, mind you, this locks the slot itself. That means you can still manually move the item around by left-clicking and dragging it. Nonetheless, it will prevent the item from being moved or used automatically. This can help better manage your precious items, so make sure to keep it in mind.
Try Playing With Friends!
Abiotic Factor might be doable as a solo player, but we definitely have to bring up co-op as one of our best tips and tricks. Not only does playing with friends make the game a lot more fun, but it also makes it a lot more manageable. If your team splits responsibilities and duties, survival will become a lot easier for everyone. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Use All Containers
Inevitably, you’ll have issues due to your inventory getting full in this game. It’s just bound to happen, with how limited inventory space is. To make up for that, you can actually freely use all the containers you find in the facility. Even things like the Trash Bins are worth using to stash items away in case of an emergency! You don’t need to wait until you can craft containers yourself.
If things get extra dire and there are no nearby containers of any sort, you can also drop items on the floor. They don’t disappear for a time, with some items straight up never disappearing. This isn’t super reliable, but it can be used as a temporary solution if your inventory is full or items are just too heavy.
Keep Important Items in the Hotbar
For our last tip, this is a simple one: keep all of your important items on the hotbar. In case you die in this game, you will drop your backpack along with all items inside it. You can retrieve these by finding the bag at your place of death.
On the other hand, items on your hotbar will remain. Their durability will be damaged by 10%, but you’ll at least keep them with you! Ideally, you never want to die, but keeping your hotbar full of your most valuable items will at least diminish the penalty if it happens. And let’s be real, it’ll likely happen in this game…
