Sony sues Tencent for ripping off Horizon series

Sony is officially taking legal action against a game it believes is ripping off the Horizon video games. The game in question is called Light of Motiram, which is being developed by Polaris Quest, a subsidiary of Tencent.

Sony filed its lawsuit against Tencent on Friday, as reported by Reuters. In it, the PlayStation maker called Light of Motiram a “slavish clone” of the Horizon games. The company went on to say that the similarities between the games will confuse buyers.

Light of Motiram has several distinct similarities to Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. This includes the use of robotic dinosaur creatures and red-haired protagonists exploring a post-apocalyptic world. Light of Motiram was announced in 2024 and does not currently have a release date.

Sony’s lawsuit is similar to the one we saw The Pokemon Company and Nintendo file against Palworld maker Pocketpair. You can expect to read updates about Sony’s lawsuit against Tencent here on Shacknews.
