Primal Planet Walkthrough – Mosscrag Heights

Primal Planet is a delightfully unique blend of Metroidvania platforming, survival crafting, and pixel-art storytelling, developed solo by Seethingswarm. It places you in the stone-age boots of a cave dweller fighting to protect his family against dinosaurs—and something far more otherworldly.

In this part of the walkthrough, our village is gone – attacked by unknown entities and now we need to find safety before the weather, the creatures or something worse comes for us.

Find Safety

After escaping from the village – you are now in Mosscrag heights and you need to find safety. Above you to the left is the path to Skybloom Plateau, but we aren’t going there now. Head to the right and to the top and between two waterfalls, you will find an altar that requires red berries and a yellow herb. That’s a Spirit Tree. Igniting it gives you 2 skillpoints.

The path to the right is blocked by thorns so head back. At the bottom right corner there are 2 Troodons and a pink herb.

Secret Area 1

Next to it is a Secret Area.

Go back to the starting area and go up, but do not go to the left. Head right and up instead and at the very top is a camping site.

Rest up and craft weapons and food, if you have the resources – because there is a boss fight next.

Tip

You might want to invest some points in HP. I pumped 7 points in it just for the boss fight.

Go to the right and you will find the boss.

Boss: Alien Walker (?)

The boss has three moves – one is the gun in front, it moves up and down blasting a straight bolt down the barrel. Stay low or high depending on where the gun is.

The second thing it does is it drops little electric bots that follow you and explode in a burst of electricity.

If you get close to it it will stomp the ground.

Throw your spears at it for damage. Pick up your spears and keep dodging the electric bots (or slashing at them) and the boss should go down easily.

It will scan your daughter and your wife will end up destroying it at the cost of her life. Watch the emotional scene, play out.

Once you are awake and have armed your daughter, you are still looking for safety. You have fallen a great distance and now you head to the left up the stairs.

Secret Area 2

There is a small secret area here.

Heading to the right over the crumbling platforms – you can swim down the pool here to ride a waterfall down to the lower level.

Crouch through the small gap and take out the mosquitoes here on the right. A bit further on is the map chamber for Mosscrag Heights and next to it is a camp. Make spears and torches and light it up.

Primal Planet Walkthrough

Start to climb up above the camp. Take out the Troodons you run into and keep moving upwards. There is a path to the right of the camp but it seems blocked off. Make your way up above the camp, on the left here is a secret area –

Secret Area 3

Primal Planet Walkthrough

Climb till you reach the top and there are two Troodons and some bones. Dispose of them and Go left from here.

Primal Planet Walkthrough

Keep going left till you see another altar here that requires herbs.

Primal Planet Walkthrough

The path above is blocked by thorns. So head to the left and downwards. Head back to the waterfall we took earlier and go right. You should be back at the map chamber. If you have the resources, stock up on healing items.

Tip

I leveled my club damage up here. I have only one skill point left right now.

Go to the right and throw the spear downwards (directional button + hold spear attack) to break the platform.

Primal Planet Walkthrough

Prepare for another boss fight.

Boss : Allosaurus

Primal Planet Walkthrough

This isn’t a particularly difficult boss fight. Throw the spear and roll from side to side. Keep repeating this till the T-Rex joins the fight. Keep repeating till the life bar goes down. Watch the brutal cutscene play out.

The Shaman will show up and you will wake up in Fernstep Glade. You now need to find your daughter.

This concludes this part of the walkthrough for Primal Planet.
