A Remake Is Coming For One Of Pac-Man’s More Underrated Adventures

When Pac-Man World Re-Pac was released in 2022, it was a pleasant surprise for fans of niche older 3D platformers. First released in 1999, the original Pac-Man World was created just a few years after the advent of full 3D home-console gaming, when every studio was trying to get 3D just right.

This led to a sort of experimental age of 3D platformers. While titles like Banjo Kazooie and, of course, Mario 64 led the way, exciting entries like Pac-Man World, rebranding one of the most iconic arcade mascots, were close behind.

So, it wasn’t much of a surprise that Pac-Man World ultimately had a sequel titled Pac-Man World 2 a few years later, jumping from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 2. Luckily for those fans of this joyous sequel, Bandai Namco just announced the follow-up reimagining, Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac.

Although it’s up for debate whether Pac-Man World 2 surpasses its predecessor, one thing fans agree on is that it was a significant expansion of the premise, offering a comprehensive expansion of the original because, after all, 3D platformers were still going through a phase of innovation.

In this reimaged version of a “wild adventure through Pac-Land,” players can expect fully remastered levels, animations, and even voice acting, to keep the charm of the original, while updating it with the leverage of modern hardware.

One notable advancement is the return of full voice acting, which gives the game its notable charm, and fans are extremely excited to hear that popular Pac-Man voice actor Martin T. Sherman is back, reprising his role as Pac-Man.

The game also has some valuable added features not found in the original, like full two-player co-op that lets you play this classic adventure alongside a friend. Additional quality of life features and cosmetics for Pac-Man have been added, giving this version some improvements over the original.

Otherwise, the entirety of the original version of Pac-Man World 2 appears to be completely represented in this package, meaning fans new and old can expect a fully remastered, yet faithful version of one of Pac-Man’s most underrated titles.

Pac-Man World 2 is set to release later this year, on September 26, 2025, on all modern platforms, as well as PS4 and the original Nintendo Switch.
