Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection adds Mortal Kombat Trilogy to its compilation

The biggest of the 2D MK parties will now be part of Digital Eclipse’s upcoming collection.

Digital Eclipse’s next compilation is bringing together many of the classic Mortal Kombat fighting game titles. It’s set to contain everything from the original game that started it all to the series’ first venture into 3D and everything in-between. Well, almost everything. When Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection was first announced, fans noticed that Mortal Kombat Trilogy was missing from the package. That is no longer the case, as Digital Eclipse announced the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Trilogy to help kick off EVO 2025.

Long-time MK fans will remember Mortal Kombat Trilogy as the culmination of the game’s original foray into 2D, bringing together every single fighter on the roster to that point. The game also added a few new faces, like purple ninja Rain, who would go on to become a breakout character long after shedding the ninja outfit. While a version wasn’t specified, given that this is Digital Eclipse, one would expect that both the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation versions of the game will be included with their respective differences intact.

Publisher Atari also announced that Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection will release physically on all supported platforms. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will ship for $49.99 USD. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will curiously sell for an extra $10, bringing that total to $59.99. Deluxe and Kollector’s Editions containing various collectibles will be available through Atari’s website. The standard versions can be picked up at major retailers, except for the Xbox version, which will be sold through Limited Run Games.

The standard and Deluxe editions of Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection are expected to ship on Friday, December 12. This is not the official release date, as publisher Atari is adamant that a launch date for the game’s digital versions has not yet been determined. Expect it to launch sometime later this year.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can’t enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
